Wine classes return to Seastar Restaurant and Raw Bar

September 19, 2011

It’s time for another “Scandinavian Wine Hacks” (Erik Liedholm and Lars Ryssdal) wine education curriculum, marking this round the 8th year of classes at Seastar Restaurant & Wine Bar in downtownBellevue.

This year will feature three classes as Erik and Lars have again pushed the envelope with planned pours of “the best quality wines money can buy”. Students can pick and choose the wine knowledge they wish to obtain from September’s “First Growth versus The World”, November’s “Burgundy” and December’s all-time favorite, “Bubbles”.

The season starter, First Growth versus The World, will be held on Tuesday, September 20. For the first time in wine school history, all of the Bordeaux First Growth Classification will be poured. Mighty “Clarets” will be pitted against the best Cabernet Sauvignon, which students will blind taste and rate. This extremely limited class will feature the “Big Five” fromBordeaux,California,Washington andItaly. Class is $120 per person plus tax.

The success of the “wine hacks” last Burgundy class, with a monumental tasting of top wines, has inspired this follow-up on Tuesday, November 8. This time the class will feature an even more epic line-up. Wineries will include Comtes de Vogue, Jean Boillot, J-FCoche Dury, Arnaud Ente, E. Sauzet, and Fichet, to name a few. In addition to this tasting of Burgundy’s top wines, students will come away with an understanding of the Cru system, learn how to purchase outstanding wines for the best price, journey into vineyards and get a sneak preview of the ’09 vintage. Class is $90 per person plus tax.

Last but certainly not least is the annual favorite Bubbles. On Tuesday, December 6, the best thatChampagne has to offer will be uncorked as students are guided through the most exciting wine region on earth. Tastes from producers will range from the top Grande Marque houses to the latest and greatest. Class is $90 per person plus tax.

The complete three class series is available for $270 per person (a $30 savings) or individually. Reservations are required and space is limited. All classes begin at 6:30 p.m. and run for approximately two hours. There is a 48-hour cancellation policy for a refund. For reservations please call Erik Liedholm at (425) 456-0010 ext. 46 or email reservations@seastarrestaurant.com.
