Eat local foods for Thanksgiving. Cascade Harvest Coalition, an organization dedicated to re-localizing the food system in Washington by connecting consumers more directly with producers through support of local farms and consumer education, is challenging you to do just that.

Now in its third year, the Eat Local for Thanksgiving campaign was created to shine a spotlight on the connections that buying locally has to the environment, use of fossil fuels and energy, supporting our local community, and helping keep our local farmers farming. This year’s goal is to secure a minimum of 5,000 pledges throughout Washington State, resulting in 25,000 people total eating local products during their Thanksgiving meals (assuming each pledge shares his or her Thanksgiving meal with 5 or more people).

Get involved by making your online pledge to eat local for Thanksgiving here. You can also participate in the Eat Local for Thanksgiving YouTube video contest by uploading your video pledge to EatLocalVideo.com (see contest instructions video below). View other pledge videos here from people like the CEO of Sur La Table and Seattle Mayor, Mike Mcginn. Contest prizes include free Taylor Shellfish Farms Seafood for six months and Sur La Table cooking classes!
